The Jewellery Workshop Maidstone was founded in 1974 and moved between various locations within Maidstone, including The High Street and Union Street before settling in our current location of Gabriel's Hill in April 1994
The Jewellery Workshop specialises in quality jewellery repairs, remodelling and commissions and has a great reputation within the area as one of Maidstone's premier independent jewellers. We also have jewellery repairs posted to us from all over the country from clients that have moved away, or via word of mouth.
The people behind the business
Jason joined the business in 1994 after working for P J Steel in Chatham for 6 ½ years and is still our resident Goldsmith on the premises today. Jason is the person that you will usually see working away behind the counter doing all our jewellery repairs and commissions. He is the longest serving member of staff, completing his 25th year in 2019. Jason is a co-owner of the business.
Tony our in-house diamond mounter has been involved with the business behind the scenes since 2008. Tony makes many of our high end handmade pieces, as well as doing some trade work for a few jewellers in Hatton Garden. Having worked in Hatton Garden for over 16 years Tony has made jewellery for many celebrities including Cheryl Cole and Dame Judy Dench. Tony became a partner in the business in 2018
Donna joined the business in 1999 and is responsible for purchasing the beautiful jewellery that we sell. She is more likely to be the person handling all your special requests and orders and is the go to person in the business to locate that special or unusual piece of jewellery. Donna is our senior member of staff in the shop, and although we do not have a management structure in the business, in any other business she would be classed as the manageress.
Helen has run the internet side of things since 2003 and is based upstairs, although you may see her in the shop occasionally if covering lunches. If you order from any of our sister websites, then it is most likely Helen that you will be helping you.
Gemma joined the business in 2015 and is our resident Gemmologist, and the person who is most likely to run through the design process with you, should you be commissioning a piece of jewellery, or remodelling an existing piece.
Gemma is so passionate about jewellery that she spends all her wages on jewellery, and dreams about jewellery in her sleep. If you would like a no obligation chat about any ideas that you may have, then Gemma will be happy to make an appointment to see you.
Callum works primarily on a Saturday, and in school holidays whilst studying at university. Callum has been with us since completing a week of work experience through school in February 2016. In that time Callum has become a very strong member of staff and helps to train new staff in areas such as jewellery and watch repairs.
Bella joined the business in 2018 and is the laziest member of staff, she typically spends her day either sleeping, or eagerly greeting customers, especially friendly children. Bella's job is to de-stress the staff with a quick cuddle or stroke. Bella is a 3-year old Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
These are the main staff that you will see in the shop daily. We also have additional staff behind the scenes with different skills such as setting and engraving.
